Accommodation

• Students stay at McLaren House residence in single en-suite rooms arranged in flats of 5 or 8 students in each.
• Communal space in each flat.
• Room furniture includes a wardrobe, desk, and chair.
• Rooms cleaned weekly.
• Laundry available in the residence building.
• Meals are served in a large self-service dining hall.
• Large communal space on the ground floor with reading corners, board games, ping pong table, and foosball table.
• Wi-Fi available throughout.
• A deposit of £30 or €40 is required upon arrival, and replacement of a lost key and fob is £120.
• Replacement of a university access card is £20.

Dining & Facilities

Dining

Meals are served in a large self-service dining hall, which is spread across two floors in the main University building, specifically in the LSBU HUB.

• Breakfast: Continental - includes juice, tea or coffee, toast, cereal, and fruit.
• Lunch: Offers a minimum of two options, always including a vegetarian option.
• Packed lunches: Provided at weekends, these include water, fruit, sandwiches, crisps, and biscuits.
• Dinner: Also offers a minimum of two options, including a vegetarian option.

Facilities

• A local park is available for games and activities.
• Laundry services are available in block C, with washing costing £2.50 and drying also costing £2.50 per cycle.

Learning

Whilst delivering bespoke lesson materials, the EduBuddy lesson is designed to engage students in discussion, to develop the key life skills of collaboration and intercultural communication, and to provide extensive opportunities to practice and build on current language.

Programme

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at McLaren House where they will register and get their room keys so that they can check-in to their rooms.

Welcome

On the first evening there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their stay.

Activities

Activities are organised on days when there are no trips and during evenings, these activities take place either on-site or near the centre.

These may include:

• Sports such as football, mini Olympics, rounders, table tennis, volleyball and basketball
• Daytime activities such as scavenger hunts and drama workshops
• Evening activities such as disco, karaoke and film nights

Excursions and Trips

Half-day Trips

Our students get to explore exciting places around London every weekday, they visit places such as: The British Museum, the Imperial War Museum, St Paul's Cathedral, Old Royal Naval College, Oxford Street and The National Gallery.

Full-day Excursions

• Brighton: A vibrant, popular seaside resort with beautiful architecture, home to the Sea Life Centre.
• Canterbury: Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is one of the most visited cities in the UK with medieval buildings, notably the gothic architecture of Canterbury Cathedral.
• Cambridge: This iconic university city is famous for its colleges, where we will visit a famous college.

Optional

• Thorpe Park: Home to thrilling rides, attractions & live events, Thorpe Park Resort is the ultimate destination for thrill seekers featuring some of the UK's most popular roller coasters.
• Windsor Castle: Visit the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world that has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years.
• Oxford: Home to the world's oldest university, where we'll visit a famous college.
• Optional London evening activities: Bowling, cinema, musical…
• The London Eye experience: Enjoy amazing 360-degree views over London from the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel.
• Madame Tussauds: Experience one of London's best loved attractions! Star in immersive experiences and get up close and personal with more than 150 lifelike figures of your favourite celebrities.

We place the highest priority on care and supervision at all of our EduBuddy centres so you can rest assured students are well looked after. Members of staff are available 24 hours a day.

Medical information

If a student needs medical attention an EduBuddy staff member will help make an appointment. Group Leaders must accompany the student to an appointment. An EduBuddy staff member will accompany any student that is not part of a group.

INSURANCE

If a student does not have insurance to cover their time abroad, guard.me insurance is available to purchase through EduBuddy.

Please note that the centre is mostly cashless. Cash is only required for optional activities and room deposits.
